Von Roll USA, Inc., a Cleveland-based electrical insulation manufacturer, became the 29th business to gain status in the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). The program recognizes Von Roll for meeting the highest health and safety standards from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
SHARP is a federal OSHA program administered by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC). The BWC sends consultants to help businesses create safety programs and identify hazards that must be addressed to attain SHARP status.
Von Roll is in good company. SHARP has previously recognized other exemplary companies in northeast Ohio, including Olympic Steel Inc., Ross Transportation Services, Inc. and Terminal Warehouse, Inc.
Von Roll’s safety manager said the process was far from easy, describing the application process as “rigorous”. The company had to submit to OSHA audits and follow-up audits to prove that they had addressed certain safety concerns, including noise hazards and changes to some of their machine guarding.
In the end, he believes it was all worth it. Von Roll is based in Switzerland, with five locations in the U.S. This is their third facility to attain SHARP status, the goal being that all their facilities will eventually receive the distinction.
