Two Killed in Ohio Crane Accident

Two workers died in a crane accident at a Timken Faircrest steel mill in Perry Township on May 4, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. The Stark County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased workers as Brian Black and Mark Tovissi, employees for Beaver Excavating Co., based in Canton.

“At approximately 12:45 p.m., a crane accident at a construction site at the Timken Co.’s Faircrest Steel Plant in Perry Township, Canton, OH, resulted in the fatalities of two Beaver Excavating workers,” read a statement released by Timken. “On-site responders immediately contacted emergency and Perry Township police, who arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. OSHA [U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration] officials also were notified. Construction operations were immediately suspended until further notice.”

An OSHA investigation should clear up some of the many questions surrounding this accident.
