Should I Trust My Employer’s Investigation Into What Caused My On-the-Job Accident?

In early August, a man was killed in an on-the-job accident while unloading bags of cement powder at a Maumee, Ohio railcar repair facility, according to The Morning Journal. The worker who was killed was a 29-year-old Perrysburg resident. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is investigating the cause of the deadly accident. In addition, the worker’s employer released a statement that they were going to investigate the incident and are committed to finding out what caused the fatal accident.

Can Employer Investigations Hurt the Cases of Injured Workers?

Following workplace accidents such as the one in Maumee, Ohio, employers will often conduct an in-house investigation into what caused the incident. However, should injured workers and their families trust the results of employer on-the-job accident investigations? In many cases, employers have more to gain if they are able to gather evidence that clears them of fault, even if that evidence falsely lays blame on an injured worker or a worker who was killed on the job.

Can a Workers’ Comp Lawyer Protect Me During a Employer’s Investigation?

When you hire a workers’ compensation attorney to handle your case, you will have the benefit of having someone who is experienced and has your best interests in mind investigating your case. Therefore, if your employer tries to gather evidence against you, you will have a legal professional on your side defending your rights and ensuring that the evidence necessary to show what truly led to your workplace injury will be gathered and used to prove your case.
