Officials from the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating a site of a fatal building collapse in Pampa, Texas. The building, scheduled for demolition, collapsed unexpectedly, killing one worker and injuring another.
Open Range Engineering Services was contracted for the site management of the Pampa Energy Center building, including selecting a contractor for the demolition of the building. Open Range claims it selected a demolition contractor with a clean safety record.
“Demolition of equipment by nature is somewhat risky and difficult,” said Open Range President Ron Nelson. “You know that was part of the process in selecting contractors as selecting people that had zero OSHA incident ratings in the past. We’ve hired what we believe to be competent, capable people that have had a very unfortunate accident.
OSHA has six months to complete its investigation and will certainly seek answers to the questions surrounding this accident.
