The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited a Perrysburg-based company for multiple safety violations, according to WSLS NBC News 10 in West Virginia. Trans Tech Logistics, Inc. is a transportation company that has facilities in West Virginia.
OSHA investigators inspected two Trans Tech facilities and cited 17 serious safety violations. One of the facilities is located in Natrium, the other in Institute. OSHA cited the facility in Natrium with 15 violations, including failure to have shutoff protection in place for machinery. The Institute facility received citations for using “unsafe” trucks and exposing workers to corrosive materials.
The proposed fines total $69,000. Trans Tech has 15 days to agree to pay the fines or request a hearing with OSHA.
According to OSHA, there were 4,690 worker fatalities in 2010. Approximately 34 percent of the fatalities were from falls, 10 percent from electrocutions, 8 percent from workers struck by objects and 4 percent of workers were caught in machinery on in between objects.
