OSHA Investigating Springfield Fatality

A workplace accident in Springfield, Ohio, claimed the life of a worker at Springfield Concrete Block & Brick on October 17. Officials from the US Department on Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) launched a full inspection of the concrete facility.

Employee Matthew Clay suffered a traumatic brain injury at the facility when his head became pinned between a wall and a stack of cinder blocks that the company rolls out of the building during the manufacturing and shipping process. The Montgomery County Coroner’s officed ruled the death an accidental blunt force head trauma.

“We’re conducting an investigation into the accident as well as other work activities at the facility,” said Cincinnati OSHA director Bill Wilkerson.

“We don’t know whether the victim intended to enter the building again between those blocks or just sticking his head in to try to say something to his friend who was operating the blocks on the rail,” said Springfield Police Sgt. Barry Eggers. Please visit our website for more information on workers comp, and feel free to contact our firm for a free consultation.
