Construction is on hold for a parking garage attached to the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland until an investigation into a collapse is complete, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Part of the valet garage collapsed as concrete was being poured on December 16. The $450 million dollar casino, scheduled to open on March 26, will not push back the grand opening.
“Those are two separate job sites,” said Rock Gaming, LLC spokeswoman Jennifer Kulczycki. “Work on the casino is proceeding on schedule.”
The debris has yet to be cleaned up following the collapse because of the thorough investigation. Inspectors from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) arrived on the site the next day. There were no injuries reported and the construction company is cooperating with the OSHA investigation. A 60 by 60 foot section of concrete fell after a section of the parking level crumbled.
“That plan and engineering report will be presented to OSHA and the City’s Building and Housing Department for review and required approvals,” said Edward Rybka, director of CBHD. “Today, the city’s chief Building Official met with all parties associated with the construction as well as with OSHA’s representative. OSHA’s engineer will conduct a complete investigation into the cause of Friday’s structure collapse.”
