OSHA Fines New Jersey Facility Following Accident in Which Worker Lost Arm

A New Jersey cup manufacturer was found to be in violation of multiple safety violations, according to InjuryBoard.com. The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sent officials to inspect a Plastico Products LLC facility in Irvington, New Jersey, following an accident in which a worker lost his arm in November 2011.

OSHA officials uncovered a total of 28 safety and health violations at the facility. Twenty-three were listed as serious violations, and proposed fines total $156,600. Violations include failure to monitor noise levels, failure to establish and implement a written respiratory protection program, stairs lacking proper handrails and failure to ensure eye protection for workers.

“Plastico Products continues to put workers at risk and neglect the implementation of safety measures,” said OSHA’s Kris Hoffman. “Employers are responsible and liable for worker safety and health.”
