Stahl/Scott Fetzer Co., a truck manufacturer, is facing federal fines after two employees lost their fingers in workplace accidents, according to the Norwalk Reflector. The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspected the Ohio facility and cited six safety violations, one of which is a willful violation.
One worker had a few fingers severed while working an unguarded press on March 19 at a facility in Wooster. As OSHA was still reviewing the incident and planning its inspection, a second incident occurred on April 19 at the same facility and another worker lost fingers.
“Manufacturing companies are responsible for knowing and following recognized standards regarding the use of potentially dangerous machinery in their factories and ensuring that all proper precautions are taken to prevent workers from being injured,” said regional OSHA director Howard Eberts. “OSHA is committed to protecting workers on the job.”
Proposed fines total $90,000.
