A plastics company in Kent, Ohio is facing federal fines for seven safety violations, according to the Norwalk Reflector. The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspected the Ponder Plastics Inc. facility in June after receiving anonymous complaints.
Among the seven cited violations, one was classified as willful. Proposed fines total $64,400. Violations including a lack of lockout/tagout procedures, a lack of guards on machines and a failure to provide employees with personal protective equipment. OSHA officials also cited the facility for obstruction of emergency exits.
“Employers have a responsibility to ensure that they are protecting workers against known hazards in their plants,” said Howard Eberts, OSHA’s regional director in Cleveland. “OSHA is committed to investigating reports of workplace hazards and protecting workers on the job, especially when employers fail to do so.”
