Officials from the US Department of Labor’s Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently inspected a construction site in New Jersey and uncovered multiple safety violations, according to EHS Today magazine. The investigators determined that workers on a fourth floor did not have proper fall protection, and four separate contractors working at the site were cited. Proposed fines total $463,000.
“Year after year, falls remain the leading cause of death in the construction industry, accounting for almost one in every three construction worker deaths,” says OSHA Administrator Dr. David Michaels. “We know how to prevent falls, and employers have a clear responsibility to provide the right equipment and procedures. When working at heights, everyone needs to plan ahead to get the job done safely, provide the right equipment and train workers to use the equipment safely.”
