A roofing contractor in Patterson, New Jersey is facing federal fines from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for repeat safety violations, according to North Jersey. R.E. General Contractor LLC was cited by OSHA officials for repeat violations at a construction site for a commercial building in Patterson, including failure to supply workers with hard hats, exposing workers to fall hazards and unsafe ladder practices. Proposed fines total $49,600.
OSHA cited R.E. for similar violations in 2008, 2010 and again in 2011.
“OSHA will not tolerate this company’s continuous disregard for adequate fall protection,” said OSHA Regional Director Lisa Levy. “Employers have a responsibility to ensure that workers exposed to fall hazards are provided with the proper fall protection equipment, are trained in its use and wear it whenever a fall hazard is present.”
Fall hazards violations are taken very seriously by OSHA and for good reason. There is no excuse for exposing workers to these dangers, and R.E. has been made fully aware of the laws in the past.
