What Should I Do If I’m Hurt Because My Work Uniform Is Defective?

What if your work uniform is defective and hurting you? The Dallas Morning News featured a story on a controversy involving the uniforms that American Airlines flight attendants wear. According to the report, two flight attendants are suing the manufacturer of their uniforms, because the outfits are making them sick.

Twin Hills, the manufacturer responsible for the uniforms, faced immediate backlash from flight attendants after rolling out the new uniforms last September. Flight attendants complained that the outfits led to them developing rashes, having difficulty breathing and suffering severe headaches. As of this writing, over 4,000 flight attendants have reported having issues with the uniforms making them sick.

Twin Hills maintains that the uniforms are safe. Initially, American Airlines shared Twin Hills’ assessment that the uniforms were safe. However, in June, American Airlines announced that it was ending its relationship with Twin Hills and would be using a different uniform manufacturer going forward.

Should I Talk to a Lawyer If My Work Uniform Hurts Me?

If you or someone you love is injured on the job, you should speak with a workers’ comp lawyer as soon as possible. You may be able to secure workers’ compensation benefits to cover your hospital bills, rehabilitation expenses and loss of income (if your injury prevents you from working). In addition, if another individual or business that is not your employer or a co-worker caused your injury, you may be able to file a third party claim and product liability lawsuit.

A third party claim is a personal injury lawsuit that you can file against a contractor, subcontractor or other third party responsible for your work injury. A product liability suit enables you to hold a manufacturer, such as the company that produces your work uniforms, accountable if their product leads to you suffering a work injury or illness.
