Filing a Workers Compensation Claim in Ohio

Filing a workers compensation claim in Ohio can be tricky, especially if you are new to the process. The traditional way to file a claim is to fill out a First Report of Injury (FROI) form and mail it in to any Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC) office. The Ohio BWC now allows you to submit this form online, making the process even easier.

They will ask you to be as detailed as possible with this report. Remember to include all details about the accident, even if they do not seem relevant. The BWC will assign a Customer Service Specialist to handle your claim. Information will be included on your injured worker identification card that you are mailed following your claim. Be sure to hang on to this and all other paperwork from the BWC. Notify the office immediately about any change of address or phone numbers.

There is a statute of limitations on workers compensation claims in Ohio. The time frame can be anywhere from 6 to 10 years depending on the injury. It is best to not delay any claims however. File when the details are still fresh in not only your mind, but any witnesses or coworkers as well.
