A chemical plant in Barberton, Ohio is looking a $90,000 fine from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), according to The US Glass Network. PPG industries, a company from Pittsburgh, was issued the fine for the violations in their facility near Cleveland. PPG is denying the validity of the citations and expect to appeal.
“An inspection was initialed September 26 after OSHA received a complaint alleging the use of an unguarded winter machine in the facility Teslin department, which resulted in the citation for the willful violation,” OSHA released in a statement. “A willful violation is one committed intentional knowing or voluntary disregard for the law’s requirements, or with plain indifference to worker safety and health.”
PPG in Barberton produces chemicals and optical products. They currently employ about 140 at this particular site.
“PPG recognizes its responsibility to provide safe, healthful workplaces and to protect the global environment in which the company operates. To this end, we run our business using sound environment, health, safety and product stewardship practices, and we communicate with the public and support the communities in which we operate.”
The exact nature of the violations was not made available, but there is no excuse for a company to commit an OSHA willful violation. Have you or a loved one been injured on the job?
