The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) wrapped up its investigation following a fatal work accident at RALG Consulting and Construction, LLC. The owner of the company, Vincente Collazo, 49, and Wayne Nicholson, 61, were both killed while working on a demolition project on January 24.
According to accident reports, the men were cutting steel beams with torches, which caused the structure to collapse on top of them. Both were pronounced dead on the scene. OSHA claims that RALG failed to properly remove the walls that collapsed and failed to properly rig for demolition.
“All the weight was the top part of the building, which we wanted taken down because it hasn’t been used in three years,” said Howard Renker, owner of the Ideal Builders Supply and Fuel facility that RALG was working at. “We were the last concrete block maker on the West Side of Cleveland—and it was an eyesore.”
