Columbus Workers Comp Lawyers Critical of Repeat Offender

Mahle Engine Components USA Inc., an auto parts manufacturer in McConnelsville, Ohio, is facing federal fines for workplace safety violations. The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited 26 violations after officials inspected the facility.

Violations include management exposing workers to electrical, lead and machine guarding hazards. OSHA issued six repeat violations for failure to properly display and provide fire extinguishers, provide machine guarding, electrical hazards and failure to properly train workers on safety procedures.

“Employers cited for multiple safety and health violations have a responsibility to review their safety and health procedures, evaluate the hazards that exist and train workers to ensure a safe and healthful working environment,” said Nick Walters, an OSHA director in Chicago. “When an employer, such as Mahle, is cited for repeat violations, it shows a lack of commitment to protecting the safety and the health of workers. OSHA will not tolerate such negligence.”

These are some serious violations to be accused of committing more than once. If Mahle does not clean up its act, the company may find itself in OSHA’s Severe Violator program.
