What to Do if You Are Injured At Work

Your occupation should never put you in harm’s way, but in all honesty, accidents do happen and people do get hurt on the job. According to the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) more than 4.6 million workers were injured in 2008.

Experts believe that due to under reporting and misreporting, the number could be far greater. If you become injured on the job, the first thing you should do is notify your supervisor, the personnel department and your union steward if you have one. If your employer fills out an incident report, be sure to obtain a copy of it.

Make sure you see a doctor and any other medical experts as necessary. Your company’s insurance should cover all of your medical bills. If you are unable to return to work for any period of time you are entitled to disability benefits as well.
