What Exactly is Workers Comp?

When people think of workers comp, they generally just view it as compensation they are entitled to if they are injured while at work. As this video demonstrates, there is much more to workers comp than many may realize. Workers compensation is a form of insurance to provide money for workers who suffer injuries on the job for lost wages. This also provides a financial incentive for employers to keep workers safe and to take corrective measures against potential hazards.

Workers compensation is not the same as general damages for pain and suffering or punitive damages on account of pain and negligence. A workers comp claim is not a lawsuit.

Not every employer subscribes to workers compensation, and laws can differ depending on your employment status. The filing process can be complicated, and laws vary state to state.
