Three Injured in Propane Explosion

A gas explosion at a facility in Shelton, Connecticut left three men in the hospital with severe burns, according to the New Haven Register. The injured employees work for Pioneer Gas & Appliance, and they were on site at a residence working on a propane system. Luke Lauretti, 48, Gary Henry, 24 and Randey Fera, 29, remain in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital.

The local fire department and police department are still investigating the site, attempting to determine the cause of the explosion. Officials from the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) began a full investigation on September 10. OSHA will be looking to see if any safety regulations were violated leading up to the explosion.

“If the inspection identifies violations, then citations could be issued and fines proposed for the employer,” said Ted Fitzgerald, regional OSHA spokesman in Boston. “It’s too early to estimate a completion date for the inspection, but it could take more time.”

The home sustained severe damage in the explosion, but the residents were not injured. Please visit our website for more information on workers comp. If you or a loved one have been injured, take advantage of our free consultations.
