A workplace accident claimed the life of a construction worker in Gatlinburg, Tennessee in late February, according to JusticeNewsFlash.com. A trench collapsed on a worker at the Gatlinburg Wastewater Treatment Plant, according to reports. Officials withheld the worker’s identity.
Rescuers pulled the man from the dirt and rushed him to LeConte Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
“The City of Gatlinburg is deeply saddened by the tragic event which occurred today,” read a statement released by city officials. “The City wishes to express its sympathy to the family of the construction company worker. We regret that this even has occurred and recognize the tragedy of this situation.”
Two workers were killed at the same site last year, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) needs to launch an investigation at this site if they do not have one planned already. If the employer is not following all safety rules and regulations, it needs to be held accountable.
