Lange Grinding in Streetsboro, Ohio was issued 33 safety violations from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), according to a press release on NewDesignWorld.com. OSHA began its inspection of the facility after a serious workplace injury on July 22 when a worker injured his arm after a piece of steel fell onto it.
“Failing to ensure equipment such as lifting magnets is working correctly puts workers at an unnecessary safety risk in a highly hazardous industry,” said OSHA Cleveland Director Howard Eberts. “Employers have a responsibility to recognize the hazards that exist in their facilities and take necessary precautions to protect workers’ safety and health.”
Thirty of the 33 violations were described as “serious.” Not all of the violations were linked to the injury in July. Most of the violations could very likely cause more injuries and accidents. It is important for high-risk facilities to strictly follow OSHA regulations, and Lange Grinding may be looking at some hefty fines.
