The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is teaming up with the Samuels Group, a commercial contractor, to replace a massive curtail wall at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Around 50 workers will be replacing a nine-story wall system at the hospital. To complete the $20 million project, they will need to demolish the exterior wall and then replace it, using glass, metal panels and glazing.
OSHA is working with the Wisconsin contractor to educate employees about some of the biggest dangers facing construction workers, like fall, electrical, caught-in and struck-by hazards.
In the construction industry, these hazards are known as the “Fatal Four,” causing more than 50 percent of construction worker deaths in 2012. Labor analysts believe that eliminating these hazards completely would save more than 430 lives a year.
