A fatal explosion at a CF Industries chemical plant facility in Donaldsonville, Louisiana has attracted the attention of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, according to The Washington Post.
The second similar explosion in the area in two days, this one claimed the life of worker Rocky Morris, 55, on June 14. Louisiana State Police was still conducting its investigation before allowing OSHA to inspect the facility’s conditions.
“Once they deem it safe, they will pull out and let OSHA and company officials do their work,” said Louisiana State Police Trooper Hared Sandifer.
Seven employees were injured in the blast and one was killed. The facility manufactures ammonia, nitrogen fertilizer and other hazardous chemicals.
“Our focus is on our number one priority—the health and safety of our employees and the community,” said Lou Frey, vice president and general manager of the Donaldsonville Nitrogen Complex, where the facility is located. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our employees.”
