A Vermont construction accident claimed the life of one worker on March 13, according to The Dartmouth. The accident occurred at the site of the Hanover Inn, according to Hanover Police Chief Nicholas Giaccone.
Dana Lowe, 53, was working at the site, assisting in the erection of steel beams from a lift when a crane ball knocked over the platform he was standing on.
“He fell about 15 feet and struck head struck the concrete floor and some steel beams,” said Giaccone. Paramedics rushed Lowe to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he died from his injury about 12 hours later.
The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is conducting an investigation into the incident.
“It could take anywhere from three months to a year,” said Giaccone, speaking of the OSHA investigation. There have been no other issues or citations are this construction site. The construction company on this project, CSE Inc., has a clean OSHA track record.
If OSHA determines the employer put its workers at risk, there will likely be a hefty fine.
