Officials from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating a fatal workplace accident at factory near Chicago, according to the Daily Herald. Oscar Pimentel, 47, died in the accident at the M.S. International Inc. facility when he suffered “multiple crushing injuries” from “falling heavy objects,” according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
OSHA has begun its preliminary investigation, which could take up to six months to complete.
“It doesn’t mean it will take that long,” said OSHA spokeswoman Rhonda Burke. If the OSHA investigation determines that unsafe practices and procedures contributed to this accident, M.S. will face fines from OSHA.
“Oscar loved his family very much,” said Daniel Benito, a friend of the victim. “Always working hard and looking forward to better his life, and that of his family, here in the USA. They were a devoted Christian Catholic family, and they were always looking for ways to help the community and supporting their parish.”
