Shawnlee Construction in Connecticut could be looking at a hefty fine at the hands of the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), due to numerous safety violations. According to The Sun Chronicle, Shawnlee failed to protect workers against dangerous falls at one of its construction sites.
Shawnlee is a repeat offender of OSHA safety regulations, which resulted in a hefty $50,000 fine. The most recent OSHA inspection of the contractor was at a site in Montville, Connecticut where a town public safety building was under construction.
“The sizable fine proposed in this case reflects this employer’s history of fall protection violations, having been cited for similar hazards in three different states over the past five years,” said Connecticut OSHA Regional Director Paul Mangiafico. “Falls remain among the deadliest hazards in construction work. Employees are literally a step away from a disabling or deadly fall that can end their careers or lives in seconds. The safety and well-being of employees depends on effective fall protection safeguards being in place and in use at all times on all job sites.”
OSHA is right to issue a hefty fine to a contractor that continuously fails to employ fall protection measures.
