OSHA Investigating Fatal Workplace Accident

A 55-year-old man was killed in a Maine workplace accident on August 25, according to sources. The accident occurred at a Redimix Companies facility near Berwick, Maine. The worker was struck by a cement truck as he was standing in the facility’s driveway.

The accident remains under investigation, a dual effort from the Berwick Police Department and the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Local police received a call around 10 a.m. about a pedestrian struck by a cement truck. Rescuers at the scene were unable to save the worker.

Redimix declined to comment on the incident.

According to the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor, there were 802 workplace fatalities in 2010 across the country. While 2010 continued in a downward trend of worker fatalities, any number of deaths from preventable accidents is too many.
