The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced fines for 15 safety violations by Quality Trailers Enterprise Inc. in Salem, Ohio, according to Vindy.com.
Violations include a lack of personal protective equipment and a lack of guards on machines with moving parts. Additional fines were issued for failure to monitor decibel levels inside the facility. Proposed fines total $55,300.
“Quality Trailers Enterprises has a responsibility to train and protect workers from known hazards, such as noise and machinery in its manufacturing facility,” said OSHA Cleveland director Howard Eberts.
Facilities such as Quality Trailers must take steps to prevent permanent hearing damage in its workers. Companies must regularly measure and document decibel levels. If the facility is loud, equipment must be issued to prevent hearing damage.
