The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited G2K Group and its parent group, GBC Inc., near Denver, for 13 safety violations, according to Workers Compensation. In March, a worker at the G2K facility was seriously injured after a crane dropped a load on top of him. The worker had to have one of his legs amputated.
OSHA officials inspected the facility following the accident, issuing citations for failure to use an approved lifting device to attach the load to the crane. The load was not attached properly, which led to this devastating accident. Other citations were issued for a lack of guards on machines and moving parts, failure to secure grinders and drill presses to the floor and a failure to reduce compressed air used for cleaning purposes under 30 psi. Proposed fines total $82,600.
“The employers’ lack of preparedness is unconscionable, and OSHA will not tolerate exposing workers to such negligence,” said OSHA’s David Nelson.
