The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited a Polymerics facility in Cuyahoga Falls with four safety violations, according to OSHA’s website. One of the violations was cited as willful, for failure to ensure that a rubber-cutting shear was working properly. A complaint was filed after a worker injury on July 27, 2011 when a worker lost his hand.
“Failing to ensure that safety mechanisms on hazardous machines are working properly demonstrates a lack of regard for employees’ safety and health,” says Cleveland Regional OSHA Director Howard Eberts. “ODHS is committed to protecting workers on the job, especially when employers fail to do so.”
A serious violation was cited for failure to conduct annual reviews of safety procedures. Other violations including failure to properly train employees working with hazardous chemicals and properly training them to use safety equipment. The proposed fines total $74,900.
These violations are unacceptable. Workers can lose their lives. Polymetrics needs to take these violations seriously and ensure that they do not happen again.
