Operating Forklifts Safely

Forklift and other power lift trucks are machines commonly found in manufacturing facilities, power plants and on construction sites and are used primarily to move materials. This video from the United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) provides some great safety tips to keep in mind while operating these machines.

In order for an employee to legally operate a forklift, the worker must be certified and have a certified forklift license. If workers are operating these trucks unlicensed, employers can face fines from OSHA.

There are many different types of forklifts and lift trucks. Some of these vehicles are extremely prone to tipping over. Injuries occur when lift trucks are accidentally driven off loading docks, the trucks fall between docks and a trailer, they are struck by another truck or they fall while on an elevated pallet.
