Most Common Workplace Injuries

The US Department of Labor is responsible for “compensable injuries” suffered by workers on the job. These cover most of the common workplace injuries. Let us take a look at the most common types of injuries, identified by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries:

  1. Caught in/under objects. Employees’ bodies or body parts are caught or pinched in a belt or piece of machinery.

  2. Falls. Employees fall off staircases, scaffolds, cherry pickers or any elevated point.

  3. Slips. Workers lose their footing and fall on an unstable or slippery surface.

  4. Noise. High decibel volume causes short term and long term ear damage.

  5. Car accidents. Employees driving in the course of employment can get into accidents.

  6. Lower body sprains/stresses. Employees sustain knee injuries hip injuries, and ankle sprains and contusions.

  7. Upper body sprains/stresses. Employees sustain shoulder, neck, arm and back injuries on the job.

These cover the most common injuries, but do not cover all compensable injuries—such as burns, chemical inhalation, carpal tunnel, etc. If you suffer any kind of injury on the job, you should contact an experienced attorney.

Your employer is responsible for your safety while you are at work. It is important to act quickly after an injury. Time is of the essence, and there is a statute of limitations.
