The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently inspected and fined Integrated Airline Services Inc. for $55,000 in penalties. Integrated Airline Services has been providing cargo handling, loading ramps and passenger services to the airline industry for over 20 years. However, in September, an employee complained that the company insisted on using motor vehicles that employees felt were unsafe to operate.
“Employers have a responsibility to protect their workers by correcting hazards, such as maintaining powered industrial vehicles in good working order,” said the OSHA area director for Franklin Park, Illinois. “Workers should never be asked to operate vehicles with unsecured propane tanks and in disrepair. Employers who are cited for repeat and failure-to-abate citations demonstrate a lack of commitment to worker safety and health.”
The inspection revealed two repeat violations: first, Integrated Airline Services failed to securely attach fuel tanks on loading trucks. Second, those same trucks featured poorly functioning hydraulics, untrustworthy tires and damaged panels. OSHA inspected Integrated Airline Services in July of 2012 and reported the same violations.
