How Can I Learn About My Employers Workers’ Compensation History?

It is important to know if your employer has a history of workplace incidents and safety violations. The website for the United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a good resource to research previous accidents that have occurred in your workplace. OSHA is authorized to inspect repeat offender facilities at their discretion if the violating company makes no attempt at corrective action.

Most recently, OSHA cited the Cleveland, Ohio-based Victory White Metal Co. for 12 safety infractions. Five violations were repeated offenses including multiple failures to prevent lead exposure. OSHA found similar infractions when they inspected the facility in 2009. “It’s unacceptable that Victory White Metal Co. failed to correct problems identified previously and continues to allow workers to be exposed to excess lead, which can cause long-term health problems,” said the Cleveland OSHA director. “Companies must implement safeguards, create a culture of safety and protect workers from the hazards that exist in their facilities.”
