Could I Get Hurt Working in a Bowling Alley?

Most work-related accidents are rather ordinary, such as a slip and fall accident, heavy lifting accident, tripping accident or vehicular accident. However, the kinds of injuries that can occur are more than can be memorized. As Ohio work injury lawyers, we have seen quite a few rare work-related injuries or deaths.

One recent tragic example of an unusual work-related fatality involves the death of a bowling alley worker. David Geiger, 53, was crushed to death by a pin-setting machine that he was attempting to repair. The cause of death was unusual enough that it has been reported on online news sources throughout the United States. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is still investigating the cause of the accident.

The incident has been called a freak accident, because of the rarity of this tragedy. Mr. Geiger had three decades of bowling alley experience and was said to have been a careful, professional worker.

The last bowling alley death caused by machinery occurred about eight years ago in 2006.

What Should I Do If I Suffer an On-the-Job Injury in an Unusual Accident?

Injuries, regardless if the cause is unusual or common, should be treated the same. You should contact your employer, a physician and a workers’ compensation lawyer.

A lawyer can investigate the unusual accident to piece together the clearest story of what exactly happened. From this, the lawyer will build the strongest evidence for full compensation as he or she can. If the injury is due to workplace negligence, you may be able to receive more compensation than you would with workers’ compensation. Much of this depends on the severity of your injuries, as well as the type of negligence involved.
