Fire at Chillicothe Lumber Yard Claims Worker’s Life

A wood yard accident in Chillicothe claimed the life of a Glatfelter employee on the early morning of August 6, according to the Chillicothe Gazette. Officials from the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as well as the Chillicothe Police Department are investigating what has been described as an accident at the manufacturing facility.

The accident appears to have been fire-related. The Chillicothe Fire Department was reportedly inspecting a bulldozer that suffered fire damage. The victim has only been identified as female so far.

“Right now, our priority is the employee and their family,” said Mitzi Anderson, Glatfelter spokeswoman. It is hard to speculate about the nature of the accident with so few details, but Glatfelter is no stranger to OSHA citations. Anderson acknowledged citations in September 2011, one involving a crane.

Few details were made available about the accident other than it appeared to be a fire at the facility’s wood yard.
