Columbus Workers Compensation Lawyers Look at Fatal Accident in Dayton

Officials from the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have cited ATW Automation Inc. for safety violations following a fatal accident at its facility in Dayton. On July 27 a worker was seriously injured when he was pinned by a conveyor being lowered during a “power down” process, according to the Dayton Daily News. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and died several days later, according to OSHA spokesperson Scott Allen.

OSHA cited ATW for failure to conduct inspections of energy source controls. Proposed fines total $63,000.

“ATW Automation has a responsibility to mandate effective measures that control hazardous energy in its manufacturing facility to ensure that machine will not become unexpectedly energized, which poses a risk of injury or death to workers,” said OSHA Regional Director Bill Wilkerson. “Failing to do so resulted in a tragedy.”
