The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) has provided grants for safety intervention to five companies in Ohio, two of which—Peerless Saw Company and Buckeye Power Sales—are in Franklin County. The grants given out in October 2012, totaled $153,000 nad were part of the BWC’s Safety Intervention Grant Program to reduce workplace injury and illness.
“Safety grants are available to businesses in any industry looking to protect the health and well-being of their workers,” said BWC Administrator Steve Buehrer. “Many employers find their purchase allows for sometimes the simplest of adjustments that can make a tremendous difference in the number of injuries and corresponding costs associated with claims.”
The BWC granted $40,000 to the Peerless Saw Company for a precision leveling machine designed for flattening saw blades. The new equipment will reduce injury risk factors to workers who previously used hammers to flatten the blades. The BWC grant of $12,754 to Buckeye Power Sales will cover 30 hoist systems and reduce the risk for workers handling materials.
