The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited an Illinois pasta manufacturer for multiple safety violations at its facility in Bartlett, according to the Daily Herald. OSHA officials inspected the Rana Meal Solutions LLC facility in July of 2012 and cited 12 safety violations.
Violations include exposing employees to ammonia hazards and various deficiencies in the facility’s refrigeration process. OSHA also determined that Rana Meal Solutions lacked written operating procedures for handling a hazardous chemical such as ammonia. Eight of the cited violations were classified as serious.
Other citations included violations for a failure to properly train new employees on handling hazardous chemicals and fall hazards due to water collecting on the floor.
Rana Meal Solutions issued a statement announcing it would review the citations before deciding whether or not to request an OSHA hearing. The company assured that it is “committed to working closely with OSHA to uphold the utmost standard of health and safety.”
Rana Meal Solutions is fortunate that no workers were seriously injured or killed. Please contact our firm for a free consultation if you or a loved one has been injured on the job.
