The Coldwater, Ohio-based Tastemorr rice cake manufacturing plant was hit with seven violations of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) code due to incidents occurring within the last few months. OSHA investigated when it was notified of an employee who suffered an electrical injury while maintaining equipment, causing the employee to miss two days of work. Another worker lost a part of a finger in an unrelated accident.
OSHA dictates that employees should be protected from dangerous equipment. Otherwise, they are at risk of serious injury or death. Tastemorr’s owner, Basic Grain Products, was charged with failing to implement electrical safety-related work practices. No protective equipment was issued, no training was offered and there was not enough room to service the electrical equipment. The company received five serious safety citations and two repeat citations.
