The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) makes an effort to ensure that those industries that do care about the welfare of their employees are rewarded for doing so. Safe businesses are successful businesses because they do not have to deal with the extra cost of fines by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and they qualify for BWC grants to further improve workplace safety. The BWC recently awarded a $30,000 grant to the City of St. Marys, Ohio to fund the purchase of automatic cot lifters so that emergency crews can safely lift the injured into ambulances.
“These cots are proving to be very useful for fire departments across the state to make a dramatic improvement that protects first responders so they can do their jobs more safely,” said the BWC CEO. “I applaud the city for recognizing that investments in workplace safety can lead to positive results, both in terms of fewer injuries and in keeping workers’ comp costs low and employees healthy and productive.”
The new automatic system will prevent emergency workers from suffering fatigue and back injuries while lifting accident victims into ambulances.
