Terrence W. Larrimer
Terrence W. (“Terry”) Larrimer was a senior partner at Larrimer and Larrimer until his untimely death in 2008. The firm was founded in 1928 by his father, Richard N. Larrimer (1903-1987). The firm has specialized since that time in representing injured workers before the Industrial Commission of Ohio and the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.
Terry graduated from the Columbus Academy in 1965. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University in 1969, with submission of his senior thesis in African History, “The Development of the One Party State in Uganda,” which is still available for research and is buried deep in the Firestone Library at Princeton University. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1972, where he was a member or the University of Michigan’s International Moot Court Competition team.
He was employed as an associate attorney at Williams and King, Washington D.C. from 1972 through 1973, practicing in international trade law. From 1973 through 1974, he was corporate counsel for the National School Lunch Company, in Washington, D.C.
In 1974 he returned to Columbus to work with his father, and was a partner at Larrimer and Larrimer until his death in 2008. In addition to his renowned administrative work before the Industrial Commission and Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, Terry was also involved in Mandamus challenges before the Franklin County Court of Appeals, and jury trial work pursuant to O.R.C. 4123.512 where he won several landmark decisions.
Terry was a guest lecturer at workers’ compensation seminars on various aspects of the workers’ compensation law. He was twice selected as a “Super Lawyer” in the Ohio Super Lawyers publication, and was inducted into the Workers’ Compensation Hall of Fame by the Ohio Association for Justice.
Terry had a distinguished rugby career spanning more than two decades, and was a prominent figure in promoting the sport of rugby in central Ohio. He was a founder, captain, and Hall of Fame member of the Scioto Valley Rugby Football Club. He previously was a captain of the Princeton University Rugby Club, All Ivy League Team (1969), Eastern Collegiate Rugby Champion (1969), University of Michigan Rugby Club (captain), a member of the Potomac Union Select Side Rugby Team, Eastern Rugby Union Champion (Sud Americano, 1972), five time member of the Ohio Select Side Rugby Team and three time member of Midwest Select Side Rugby Team, Midwest Champion (SVRFC, 1978), and two time invitee to the National Eagle training camp. Terry was also featured in the Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd” section.
Terry died at his home on June 24, 2008, after a spirited fight with brain cancer. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda (Gentis) Larrimer; daughters, Audrey Katherine Larrimer (Dave Wooster) of Athens, Ohio, Emily Justine Larrimer on New York City, NY, and Amanda Marie Larrimer of Columbus; and grandson Abraham Wooster.
Terry’s energy, intelligence, and enthusiasm will be missed by all. |
